OK EXPERTS. This is my question. I truly want to purchase an higher end watch by the end of the year. I am really enamoured by the Super Ocean but am also lovin the looks of the Seamaster. Now you FREAKS that own these watches...this is your mission if you choose to accept it. Give me the pros and cons on each watch and if you were saving up for your very first high end timepiece....which way would you go? Thanks in advance gang!

SuperOcean is a great watch but a bit smaller than the Seawolf, about the same size as the Speedmaster. The SuperOcean is also high polished, a negative for me...

I would maybe look for a 45mm Planet Ocean...

PO XL vs Seawolf,,,jsut different sides of a coin IMHO both great just different in their own way. Omega might be slighly more dashing and Breitling a lil more work orientated ?

Isn't the Super Ocean about 42mm? As for the Planet Ocean...we're talkin big difference in cashola!

This guy i know out on the whacky left coat with a real faggy call tag (cali kid) has got them both!! To me the sperocean is a better made piece and is thicker on the wrist!! The SO comes in at 42MM and is 15mm thick. The seamaster is 41MM but plays bigger due to the dial opening and is about 12mm thick!! Alan is right the SO has alot more polished parts while the SM just has some polished links! The new omega's have the co-axil movement and dont know much about it while breitling works over a eta motor! They are both the best running pieces i own, the omega is almost 10 years old and the SO ia going on 6! the SO bezel is much easier to rotate if diving or timing the BBQ! Guess what i'm trying to say is both watches kick butt and it comes down to personal choice!!

I personally think that the Breitling would suit you better. A tougher looking more rugged watch.

Duff I really can't be of much help to you on this one ! I don't have either watch so I spent some time comparing and pricing the two. Both the Super Ocean and Seamaster are Amazing Watches ! So any decision will be a good one in the end. I can't really give any pros and cons..I'll leave that up to those that have one or both watches ! Bottom line..both are great ! try the breitling super ocean heritage 46 on mesh, or the steel seawolf at 45mm and 18mm thick. theres 2 superoceans. ones 1500m, the other is 2000m and 44mm, 16mm thick. the seamaster is 41mm and 12mm thick. Better comparison would be a planet ocean. Thats more comparible in size to the superocean.

In the choice of the two, I'd have to vote Omega. I don't like all the high polished finish on the Breitling and the Breitling dials are usually too busy for me in general. Bond wears Omega and chicks dig Bond. So where does that leave you? I have no idea

the older model SO from 1997-2002 came with a all brushed finish. Buddy on the boards from Norway has one listed at WUS for1100.00 on a bracelet and rubber strap, box, no papers! Goes by El President and his real name is Roar, straight up good dude and has made alot of deals!!!

Gonna put this in this thread too! My suggestion to duff is to head to the closest Breitling AD and try on the superocean and steelfish to make sure they will work for you, then head out to the boards and fing a pre-loved one and bring it home. there is nothing wrong with doing a little window shopping when you're going to spend over a grand on a watch!!

It seems that some of the Super Oceans are polished and some of them might be brushed as well !
This is connected to my other links..but check out how the first one says polished steel and the entire bracelet looks polished too, but the others say brushed and seem to have more dull or brushed bracelets !

I'd pick the Omega over the Breitling every time.
Omega is, IMHO, better made, has an in-house movement, superior resale and more stylish.
Breitling is, IMHO, kind of a macho fashion brand. Model line up changes too frequently and too fast. That hurts resale. (Think Invicta on steroids).

And, as much as I hate to say this, if you're saving dough for your first luxury/snob/highishend/etc. watch you should really, really, really consider a used Rolex. Most offer classic design and stable pricing. It's hard to get hurt when you grow tired, want something else or simply change your mind.

Since I've abandoned the Land of The Rolex Yuppie, my tolerance for the Coronet has increased. I used to associate Rolex with Intolerance, zealotry, BMWs, wannabes and golden retrievers. Thankfully, that has changed and I can see the brand a bit more clearly.

In fact, I think I used to dislike Rolex just to annoy certain people who Would Be King.
