PostSubject: Invicta using the same movements for the same model?   Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:55 pm

A while back on WG there was a thread about a guy who has a Corduba I believe that he took into a jeweler. The jeweler told him that the retail ones had a different movement. Anybody remember that thread? Anyways, nobody could believe it and that ShopNBC just gave good deals on the same watch with the same movement and the jeweler was just jealous.

I would not have thought they used different movements either, until the recent posting of Russian Divers from the likes of Sams and Costco. You know, the ones that say Swiss Comp as opposed to Swiss or Swiss made.

Does Invicta make cheaper versions for some of their retail or online customers? Unfortunately I cant ask them, if its one thing they have mastered, its not giving a straight answer.

Koimaster might be able to help with this question. I'd sure like to think Invicta wouldn't do something this.

I bought a lupah from big 5 sporting goods for 49.00 dollars and when i got it home noticed it was made in china and had a chinese movement! It was on the caseback so dont think invicta was trying to pull anything but they do make cheaper versions of some of their watches!

Go ahead and get me into trouble with the owners over there... Laughing

This is an opinion and only that. Retail watches in many cases do use a cheaper movement. I will use Rotary as an example. They use the term "est. Switzerland 1837" at the 6 o"clock on many watches with chinese movements that are made for retail outlets. Invicta may very well do the same and the words (not accepted by the Swiss by the way) Swiss Comp can give cover for it. The only definitive way to tell would be to purchase a watch at shop and the same watch model at a retail outlet such as costoc or JC pennys.

An analysis of them side-by-side like was recently done with the CL888 would be interesting.

I remember the $49 Big 5 Lupahs. They did'nt even have the Invicta model number on them. If I recall correctly, there was quite an uproar with some people assuming they were fakes. Yes, some underachiever may have actually sunk to counterfeiting $49 Lupahs. JS asked Eyal and they were genuine Invicta product made for the South American market, I believe he referred to them as "grey market". Crappy photo lifted from Big 5 ad.
