PostSubject: Oris Hunter Limited Edition   Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:22 pm

Oris' official site states: " The real jet set!
The Hawker Hunter was one of the first jet aircraft in service and is still going strong today. The Oris Big Crown was the first Oris pilot’s watch
and still has pride of place in our aviation collection. This limited edition brings two of aviation’s best together with magnificent results. At 46mm it’s the biggest watch in the Oris world of aviation and is as stylish as the Hunter is versatile."

Swiss watchmaker Oris has released the latest addition to their Aviation series of watches — the new Oris Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition. Designed as a tribute to the Hawker Hunter fighter jet of the Swiss Air Force. Its been a while since the first Hawker Hunter Jet took flight – 1951 to be exact. After a few years, the jet made it’s way to prominence as part of the Swiss Air Force. As Watch Happening tells us, “Although the Hunter has since been retired in Switzerland it continues to fly thanks to the Swiss Hunter Team of the ‘Fliegermuseum Altenrhein’, a unique group of former Swiss Air Force pilots who were inspired to fly by the Hunter. The Oris Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition reflects both the strength of the jet and the quality of its design.”

It's a PVD coated 46mm cased, a beveled top ring with a rather large screw down crown. The dial has the signature Oris aviation instrument look to it, while the pointer of the calendar hand comes with a tiny Hunter jet on its tip, a transparent glass backcase, also marked with the logo of the Swiss Hunter Team which is another gesture towards the inspiration for this watch. 1958 are being produced (which is also the year the jet
came to Switzerland) and is finished in a solid display box set, complete with a genuine Hawker Hunter ejection seat safety splint which has been turned into a keyring. It is also marked with a unique limited edition number that makes it an essential part of any aviation enthusiast’s collection.

I am far removed from being an aviation-type guy but this is a sweet timepiece. I love the size and the dial layout.

I like that watch, great size, clean dial, aircraft date pointer. Could 'nt help but notice the jet on the paperwork is British. The RAF was the primary operator of the Hawker Hunter, but the Swiss used them also. Would have thought they would dig up a Swiss pic, but the RAF markings are more universally recognized.

Everything about this Oris is stealth-like and well done IMHO !
From the terrific grey finish on the case, to the eye-catching
dial and bezel. Not to mention that NICE movement, strap..and
little plane too ! With all of the great watches to choose
from out there, especially aviation styles, this Oris adds yet
another option for people !

Man, that is one hot looking watch! I like the overall looks of it and the size is perfect! The only issue I have is it's on a strap. Just not a big strap guy. Other than that it's kick a**.

It is a nice watch, isn't it.

I think that they change the photos based on the language used on the website and the Country of the marketing language. Could be wrong but I think that is part of their strategy.

Very nice looking piece and the jet on the date hand makes it much easier to read.

VERY COOL WATCH! I just got my first Oris last week (47mm Diver, date/small sec) and a Pilot like this would definitely be a sweet add.

Thanks for posting it!

The date hand running in reverse is beyond cool.

I love Oris. They hit a very nice spot for value/dollar and brand integrity.

Question: Are pointer dates ususally counter-clockwise? This one is and that seems different to me than those I've seen in the past.

The 2836 has a standard date wheel, which runs CC. This is one of the modifications (apparently) like the small seconds, that Oris does with the ETA ebauche. My Diver uses the same base movement, but has the date wheel as opposed to the pointer. My only pointer is quartz (Ronda 5040f) and it runs clockwise. The Valjoux 7751 runs clockwise too.

My RT has a pointer date with a 2836-2 and it runs clockwise. Guess Oris just does it to be different.
