Found a terrific site that has many solid articles on Japanese watches.

The first that I've read completely is "How to spot a fake Seiko watch (revised)"

http://quartzimodo.com/articles/how-to-spot-a-fake-seiko-watch/

Well worth your time, solid info, good pics, really detailed.

Great info Doc ! Some of those WOULD be hard to tell apart ! It really
does seem like people go through alot to make these replicas look real.
However, customers definitely need to look into things before buying
a watch. I know I learned a few things to look out for. Thanks, this was
extremely informative !

Very interesting, I never would have though that it would be worthwhile for anyone to make Seiko knockoffs. The worst was the automatic chronograph.

Fakeo's are out there - it was a real surprise for me too. With some of the 60s & 70s Chronos and Divers commanding premiums it makes it economically viable to make fakes for $20 and sell them for $200-300.
