PostSubject: Seiko Hi-Beat   Sat Apr 24, 2010 7:26 am

I got this at the antique show last week, got it cleaned up a bit and took some photos. Eventually it will need service it is a bit dirty inside, but I replaced the gasket and cleaned all the funk off it. It does keep good time. This only has a 17mm strap (had to use a 16) so the strap really seems small to me, I will have to keep my eye out for other options. Movt is a 2409A Hi-Beat 23 Jewels, automatic with handwind but no hack....I think only 28K for beats in this case (not 36K like some other Hi-Beats) but still looking into that. I think the date is 1973 on this one, date calc does not have this movt however. What I really liked was the case...kind of different, silver linen dial....

Very nice. It is indeed a 28.8k movement and not a 36k as you surmised. The technical manual PDF can be found here for this movement -

Have you considered a notched 18mm strap? It will even out the balance and IMO would look great!

Either way...awesome find man!!

Gary, I thought this watch looked great when I first saw it, but now after
seeing these new pictures of it, it looks OUTSTANDING ! The movement
is the best, with all of that intricate detail. It's like a piece of art ! Plus the
condition of everything looks incredible also. That case is really unique as
well, and I don't think I have seen a dial made of that material before either.
It's DEFINITELY a special piece sir ! Congratulations on finding such a cool
watch, I know you are enjoying it ! Thanks for the FANTASTIC photos
also !

It's a cool watch, I like these square cases. I would try and get a strap modded for this case too

My pleasure. Good looking dress watch. The way the watch is set up with recessed lug holes you could even go with a 20mm if you wanted. I'd lay each under it and see which looks better to your eye.

on Dr Seiko Seikoholics site...http://seikoholics.yuku.com/sreply/177
In the database you will see old ads which show ones similar to yours, which is seemingly rare!

UPDATE!

You are going to see this soon in the WRUW thread but I finally got this beauty serviced and (more importantly) found the THE perfect strap for it. Here are some updated photos.

Oh NICE Gary ! Very Happy It's like the watch is supercharged with that great new strap. ..That wide
section under the case must really help protect the watch, and that stitching pattern couldn't
be cooler either with the way it plays off of the dial. It really looks TERRIFIC ! Plus I bet
it is running better than new with the servicing TOO ! Congrats once again Gary !!!
