| Apparently they are popular elsewhere thought. The December 28, 2009 issue of Time magazine rated the Casio GW7900B-1 as a Top Ten Gadget of 2009. I don't own an Atomic watch but have considered one as a set point for my other watches. This one looks interesting but has a weird feature that I understand is new, even for Gs. Apparently it has fins on the underside of the watchcase to help hold it in place on the wrist. Not sure what that's all about or how they would wear - particularly across the WIDE array of wrist sizes, shapes, and types that we all have discussed here. But, at $150 MSRP it seems a descent enough buy. Wonder what street price is for it?

| Didn't Time Magazine also name Ben Bernanke as Man of the Year? |

| Not crazy about any digital watches. But a lot of the Gshocks do have interesting capabilities. | |

I agree, some of the features are pretty cool but the digital thing doesn't do it for me. |

Ok, so they're not perfect..... Yeah, but that "Man of the Year" deal doesn't mean they have to be good... hell, bin Laden was "MotY" for '01 IIRC. It's just who had the biggest "influence" on the world that year. I don't like digital, either. |

| I tried a couple of G-Shocks and ended up selling them both. I just dont like digital...I've tried. I just sold 15 or so watches and just this morning picked my self up an analog G-Shock with a white dial. If I don't like this one....I'm done with 'em. ____________________________________ Later, GaryRemember we are the caretakers of mechanical art..... | G's are the nutz for dirty work!! I got an Atomic/Solar years ago (one of the first) to set my other watches by. Still have it (and others). I wear my Mudmen when extreme sweat or moisture is involved. They DARE you to cause them harm. Love them or hate hem they will kick ANY other watches ass when it comes to hard labor. |

| G-Shock does absolutely nothing for me. I appreciate the ruggedness, but don't want one |

| G-Shocks don't interest me much. But one of my goals in collecting is to get a very wide variety and representation of most/all major types, so a G-Shock warrants a try. So 6 months ago I decided to start looking for one that I might wear. Typical black ones held no interest so I decided to look for white or orange. I couldn't find a low cost one that I really liked. I found this no name homage on ebay that grabbed me on super-low price and the fact that it has analog hands. It's one of the most comfortable watches I own. I like that one enough that I was encouraged to keep looking. So as most of you probably know I just got my first G-Shock this week. The post Christmas sale price made it easy and I like the bright color. I like it but I don't expect to get any more G-Shocks. I'll see if I have any interest in wearing this one 6 months from now. I don't have a G-Shock with radio sync, but found this WaveCeptor on sale new for only $15. I've worn it 2 or 3 times in the year+ that I've had it. I didn't buy it with intention to wear it, but just as a time reference for setting the watches I do wear. | |

It's nice having a variety of watch types Mike. Also when you figure in the durability like Foghorn said and add in the different looks like some of yours here above..it's excellent ! The variety of functions these G-Shocks have are a plus too. Add in some great pricing like on your WaveCeptor and you can't lose ! I can see how G-Shocks could be VERY addictive ! Thanks for the info as well Doc ! ____________________________________ | |

| The one mentioned in the first post with the flaps - as for comfort it is unmatched by any watch I have ever worn...most comfy of all. I dont know how it would work on larger wrists.
As for the negative display shown on that one...they are generally not the easiest around to read in any low light setting, although you can turn the autoEL on...being as that one is solar it would not be a problem for the battery.
The street price will probably stay around 150 or close to for a while. That particular version is pretty new to the US market.
The non-solar-atomic can be had for less...prices vary from say 80 to 120 or so, depending on color.
If you are not a fan of digital, the G-Shocks also have analog models as shown in this thread above...including some of their higher end models with the 5 motor movement that is used in the Oceanus line. |

| I will be getting one very soon. I want it for a true beater. I am not sure on the size though! They seem huge. I have never worn one, so I will probably wait to try one on to see how it fits. I like the G9300 military black...check it out sometime, pretty stealth! ____________________________________ M A R K

| I would not worry too much about size. They have various sizes so you should have no trouble finding one that you like. Check Sears...they dont have a huge selection, but they do have different size models. They also have a Baby-G line and a new line of Mini Gs...never seen those, but have heard about them. This week I will try to get some side by side shots of some various size Gs next to some big I watches that are common for size reference. - andrema wrote:

| I'm not a fan of digital watches so G-Shocks have never been on my 'must have' list. That's just me though. Hey Richard, as for the fins on the first pic....are they spring loaded to accomodate various wrist sizes or stationary? Richard would have to be our G-shock expert here at XMT as he and his wife own Plenty-O-Gshock! |

| Duff...they have a bit of play in them to accommodate different sizes. Free floating though, no spring loading. They can also be removed though I cant imagine anybody would choose to...seems a simple but ingenious way to give a custom fit to different sized wrists. |

| I have one after owing a bunch of them. This one sits mostly in the watch box thoug occassionally I get a wild hair and put it on. I can't unload it because it was a Christmas gift last year from the wife. Functionality wise it can't be beat. |

I think that one is a good choice. If you want to have one G-Shock just to add variety in your collection, the all red stands out nicely, useful casual/sport styling. I wouldn't mind having a red like that or maybe orange G-Shock. EDIT: I was looking at that on another monitor where it looked red. Now on my computer I see it looks orange. Hmmm. But as I intended to say, an all red or all orange is a cool way to go if adding a G-Shock to your collection.
