Could we be seeing the return of a Great Zenith?

A new article at WatchTime makes me think it might be possible that a Great Zenith will emerge from the Nataf ashes.

Jean-Frédéric Dufour previously worked for Chopard, the Swatch Group and Ulysse Nardin. He now directs the Zenith manufacture, a new role which he took on when he became the brand’s president and CEO on June 1, 2009. In this interview, he shares some of his ideas about Zenith’s future after the departure of his predecessor Thierry Nataf.

What were your first fundamental tasks?
Analysis and reflection. We had no fewer than 808 different references. That was far too many because it overwhelmed both us and our partners in the specialized trade. The Defy line alone consisted of 70 references. The new number of references will be 111 at the beginning of 2010 and they’ll comprise the core of our collection. We’ll also introduce about 30 new items. Our declared goal is to have no more than a readily comprehensible total of 150 Zenith references.

When I read this article the other day, my first thought was, "Man, I bet he has a nice collection. Wonder if Swatch Group cared if he wore a Chopard to work."

Good points, though doc. Zenith rising would be cool.

Although Zenith is one of those Elite brands !..Mr. Dufour seems
to have a down to earth attitude about him. Being a team player
sounds good and focusing on craftsmanship can't be bad either.
I think he understands the history of the brand well !..I thought
it was great that Zenith has been in the same location or address
since they began ! It was an interesting article Doc..and it
will also be interesting to see how Zenith does or doesn't change
in the future !..Thanks again !

Interesting and promising, especially since the brand was bled dry by the Euro-trash vampire who used to run it. I assume you all know who I'm "referencing."

Reading this article gives me such a warm feeling inside. Zenith is my ultimate grail brand that I hope to own someday once the kids are through with college. Its nice to know that Zenith could truly return to classic form by then.
