Let's see what YOU got!

Well we all know Atomic Tom pretty much has never met a watch he doesn't like (or at least can't find ONE positive thing to say about models many of us would HURL over)! His POSITIVE attitude is great around here and can really help "turn some threads around" sometime. Well now it seems our boy has got the BUG to...DESIGN A WATCH!

He sent me over some pics to sharpen up and adjust in Photoshop and I have to say, WELL DONE!

Let's take a look at his stuff:











I have to say...VERY COOL!

I like the FLATTENED bezel at the bottom...

Very Unique hands...

The Indices are pretty cool as well...

A few questions for our new designer:

1. What size do you envision the watch?

2. What inspired the flattened bezel at 6'oclock?

3. Is there any significance to the 2 rounded indices on either side of "12"?

I really enjoy seeing an artist at work. IMO it is a good thing to go through lots of design iterations and ideas before deciding on a particular direction.

Your kidding right? What you got is killer you don't need me to color by numbers to make those look any better!! I can't draw a line and if I did I couldn't stay inside of it.

TOM - is the flat spot on the bottom for a 6 o'clock crown? I must say, it makes pretty good sense for access to change while wearing!

One thing to consider, with this case design it sort of leads to a fixed bezel. That is unless the "notch will be used to position the bezel...that may work.

For the second hand, you may want to go with a "PO style with an end similar to the minute/hour hands.

BTW - great job!

I am UNBELIEVABLY honored and humbled by all of your words everyone !!!
THANKS to ALL of you for being SO cool !!!!!!!!..Basically thought it might be neat to
try and come up with some watch designs. Maybe come up with cases, dials, hands,
bezels, movements that we have never seen before. It was actually started because
I don't have Photoshop, so Photoshopping a design would be OUTSTANDING too !
I'm not an artist or anything ! Just went out a few weeks ago and bought some
drawing pads, colored pencils, and even a circle template to help with the dials,
and cases ! ANYONE can do this !!!

The size of this watch would probably vary ! I would honestly like everyone to be
happy, so I would have it come in 42mm, 45mm, and 48mm.

O.K. now the flattened bezel at 6 o'clock came from just trying new things with circles.
Basically was cutting different edges off to see how it looked. Also always liked those
flying saucer type cases from years ago on older watches.

With the two rounded indices at either side of the "12", there really isn't any significance
to that. Just trying out different number and marker combinations to see how they looked
also. What's cool about drawing these, is you can ALWAYS change things. The possibilities
are basically endless.

So, there you go Alan ! THANKS SO MUCH for putting these up, they came out MUCH
clearer than the ones I sent you ! I'm kind of blown away that everyone is liking this !

Doc, WOW ! XMT Watch Project ! THAT sounds Out of this World sir !
I think YOU would be a PHENOMENAL watch sketcher or designer. I mean YOU
do like Seiko, and they know about PERFECTION. So watch designs by you would
be just that,.."perfect" ! You know alot about watches too, so that could play
a BIG role in your drawings or photoshoppings ! It would be SO cool to see what
YOU could come up with isr ! Thank you again !

Poli, I'm not an artist by any means, just trying out some ideas on paper. I'm sure
you have some FANTASTIC ideas of things you would like to see also ! Thank
you sir !

Dale, you would be GREAT at this as well ! Just take your time and come up with
something that YOU like. I used a circle template to help me, and then used tracing
paper to make additional color dials. Thanks again !

Mark, YOU got it !!! That is supposed to be the crown at the bottom there ! Not
sure exactly how it works, but it's there ! Wasn't really sure about the bezel when
I drew these. I actually thought it would move, but fixed could work too I guess. For
some reason I got so mixed up in the hour and minute hands, I forgot the seconds hand.
That probably should be similar to the other two hands I suppose ! Thank You !

Tim, ..thoe are my pencils, believe it or not ! Just went out and bought
them a while back ! (You wouldn't believe how far colored pencils have come) Let's
just say there are alot of them ! ..Glad you liked the watch Tim ! I think you would
be AWESOME at this too ! Thanks very much for looking sir !

remarkeable sketches as well. With all of the cool watches you have, you know
what makes a watch look GOOD ! It's actually REALLY fun once you get started,

Ron, Thank you sir for your comments also. I mean YOU actually know how to take
apart and put together REAL watches ! ..So this means alot coming from you !
Without a doubt you would be a master at coming up with your own sketches or designs.
Whether drawing or photoshopping, your watches would be FANTASTIC I bet ! It's
nice because you can come up with things that maybe you would want to see watch
companies do also ! With your eye for detail,I can only imagine what you might come up

Trevor, I think watches might actually be easier to draw ! ..Seriously
though, if you did this, your watches would be OUTSTANDING as well ! You know how
to MAKE YOUR OWN WATCHES, so drawing them would be a piece of cake for you I
think ! Plus you know how everything works like Ron, so THAT'S a plus right there !
Before you know it, you guys will be building your own watches from scratch !..So,

Randy, I really appreciate your kind and funny words there ! That AT Watchworks
sounds pretty cool ! Honestly, just thought we could have fun creating things
we might want to actually see from watch companies. I know alot of times we want
watch companies to come up with watches, that they don't. So this way we could
find a way to see those designs AND have fun doing it ! I'm sure your designs would
be TERRIFIC if you ask me !..Thank you once again !

You're too kind (Positomic Tom) - I forgot how to draw long ago thanks to decades of using digital 2D/3D programs.

Great tool for those that can't pop for the 600+ bucks for a single program.

Hey Tom........GREAT JOB!!!! I actually thought the flat area of the bezel at 6 o'clock looked as if you pushed in the remainder of the circle to set and lock in the bezel. Very cool indeed!

Jaw, those links are REALLY Terrific ! Some James Bond coolness going
on right there ! Thank You !!! By the way, it would be great to see some
2D or 3D renderings of watches as well. THAT could be part of this too,
just like sketching, or photoshopping !

Duff, I like your idea about the flat portion and the bezel also. Honestly,
there could be multiple things going on there, and it's cool trying to figure
things out. I thought it was something different, and maybe could be the
crown. I'm glad you like this sir ! I KNOW YOU could come up with something
EXTRA cool !!!

That link you gave, looks VERY cool Tim ! I guess that is the real deal there.

Gary, glad you like this ! It's all new to me really. Just thought it would be interesting
to see what we could come up with. Whether it be a totally original design, or even a
supercharged version of a watch you already like, but wanted to see something new
added to it. It's all about what you like ! Enjoy !!!

I have to say that I always appreciate Tom's positive attitude and its always refreshing...Now those drawings are awesome Tom....wow very creative my friend...Keep up the great work, keep the juices flowing brutha but just make sure you patent those pics...lol..I'm in when you start selling...just let me know when and where to send the money..

designs which are much better than mine !..I'm sure you guys have had
some ideas of things you have wanted to see over the years in watches.
Maybe it's a case design, or cool dial, or maybe something else. It's really
just about having some fun !
