| Came home today to find an alarming message on my answering machine. It was from Chase credit fraud department regarding my Master Card account. Holy crap, what the hell was going on. I rarely use it and keep a close eye on the activity, online and with my statement. Speaking with a rep I found that someone had tried to use it today to purchase $600 worth of World Cup tickets! They saw the attempted purchase as suspicious and halted the transaction. I give them a lot of props for catching it and calling to verify; word to the wise...WATCH YOUR CARDS!!! |

| Yeah, I've been asked to come to the phone once or twice when trying to buy something a bit unusual for me or a LARGE purchase in person. Always happy to answer their questions and clear up that I am myself. |

| The credit card companies seem to be putting more of an effort into stopping fraud. I recently got a call from a company which has been hired by my credit union to try and identify suspicious debit card purchases. The two transactions they asked me about were genuine-one was an online watch purchase. Knock on wood I have yet to be victimized by credit card fraud. I wish they could do something about those Nigerians who are frequently trying to send me money. | |

Yeah, sometimes a bit too much. A while back my wife and I had our first long (three weeks straight) vacation in years. We notified both cards we carry where we'd be so there wouldn't be security concerns. "Oh, no problem, we'll note all of that in your account info," we were told. The one card we were going to use most often, because of a slightly better exchange rate, cut us off three times, and we even put several thousand on both of the cards before hand, so we had a negative balance, so we were working with "real" credit. Then, after two calls from overseas, which cost over $60, not to mention the problems with the card being rejected, etc., the one was still dead. When we got home, they received a long letter from my wife, a professional accountant, outlining every problem we had and the expenses we incured from trying to clear up the problem. And to their credit (no pun intended) they reimbursed us for all the extra expenses. And now the crooks can steal your info with a radio frequency scanner. Evil Bastards. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Banking/CreditCardSmarts/NewCreditCardsAllowHandsFreeTheft.aspxSome guy is selling wallets made from a material that blocks radio waves. Sheesh, will it never end? |
