| do you prefer to buy your watches new or used? myself i like to buy new when ever possible. why, i like to be the first one to own it, i like to get a warranty, i know what im buying is the real deal. it realy doesnt make much sense seeing how its like buying a new car, you loose money soon as drive it off the lot. with a watch wether you wear it or not its a used watch and in most cases you will never get back what you payed for it. on the other hand you can get some great deals on used ones, they seem to hold there value close to what you would pay used also (on good brands) they seem to drop from the new price to the going used, and stay pretty close to that price (depending on condition) the hard part about buying used is the trust factor, is the watch in the condition they say it is, is the guy pulling a scam, ect. i know there are a lot of ways to check the seller out such as referances, current pics of watch. if the price is to good to be true,?? but when you are after one certain watch they can be hard to find and in many cases you have to jump right away.well just wanted to know what your guys thoughts are on this. thanks steve | |

| It depends. I was about to buy a new PO right before I bought my used one. Good thing, I saved a ton of money!! IMO a well cared for preowned watch is a smart buy IF it is real....not sure that I worry about that for sub $1k watches, but over that I am real careful. ____________________________________ M A R K

| Depends on the watch and the best available price. Mostly for expensive (> $1000 retail) that don't typically drop in price. Course I always prefer new if I can find a sale, liquidation deal, etc. But I don't lose ANY sleep over buying used. Purchased more used this year than ever. BTW: Same goes for cars.

| I like buying new watches, but also don't buy very expensive watches either. If I were to start looking at more higher priced watches, buying them used would definitely be worth considering. Especially since many people who like this hobby seem to REALLY keep their watches in great condition. So, if you can get a basically brand new watch for a used price, then that is FANTASTIC ! ..Great topic by the way Steve ! ____________________________________ | |

| Let's see...
Of my current collection I got my Seawolf and Below Zero used, but i THOROUGHLY checked out the sellers before buying.
My SOH, Sunset, G-Shock, Astrographic, LM7, and Steinhart were all bought new, my Oceanaire from the Fossil Outlets.
I just ordered a NEW Swiss Army but appears that I got a good deal on it too based on retail.
I look on WUS daily but still more comfortable buying from a retailer over an individual unless I know them well and can verify references and the like...
Believe it or not my watch funds are limited at this point, to buy I have to sell, so I don't wanna take even chances on a $500 watch let alone one over $1000...

| I've bought both. If I know the person and the condition of the watch I have no problem buying used. |

| I don't think I have a preference, although if I buy "used" I generally feel like I got a better deal. I've bought and sold hundreds of vintage watches, so used doesn't bother me. Most of the used watches in my collection are mint, though. They appear brand new. | |

| thanks guys, i think im going to start looking more at used ones also. i have gotten some good deals on new ones, just not as good if it were used in ex condition. i think ive only got 2 watches left in my collection that i bought used and its hard to sell them because they are not in the condition that i would have kept them in if i were the orig. owner. i hate when you see one for sale and they say like new condition with normal desk diving marks? nothing normal about it!!! i have watches that ive had for years with out marks on the clasp. hell maybe im just to picky.thanks again steve | |

| Half my collection was bought LNIB and half was bought New. I certainly like finding a deal when there is one but I'm pretty picky on condition of the watch. | |

Very true Trevor. I picked up a Eco Drive with only light scuffs on the clasp and a small scratch/smudge on the bezel for $30 . Probably one of the best deals I ever scored. |
