| There are so many watch companies selling watches, many that look similar to each other, different movements, etc..why buy this brand when that brand has the same basic watch? Does it come down to looks, features, movement or name behind the watch? Is it better to buy from a respected name and most likely pay more $ or a watch company that hasn't built a reputation yet and sometimes pay less, sometimes not? | |

| First and foremost it comes down to style.
After that all else follows.
Currently I look for value. Not cheapness of price but value. Quality product at a resonable price. Not willing to pay a premium for a name, but instead want something that will last and can be worth something long term if proper care is taken.

| My watches are all over the place now...
2 Breitlings 2 Hamiltons 2 Zodiacs G-Shock Lum-Tec Helson Ocean 7
I still like diver style watches the best...
44mm and up...
Brand is important (to a certain price point)...
Finally had some good luck with the Micro Brands...
I will say this, having had a Panerai and now a Tungsten Lum-Tec, if Panerai made the SAME case for one of their models, they would probably charge $8k for the watch...
The Lum-Tec is solid for sure...

| This has to be one of the truest, along with most fun questions to think about Ron ! Years ago when first getting into the hobby I literally thought when seeing a watch design, case design, or look that it was THAT company's very own style. Then later realized what you are saying about many of the watch companies basically playing off of eachother, as well as using the same or similar looks. I guess when it comes to choosing what watches to look at, or collect it's a combination of things for myself. On the one hand it is looks ! Sometimes I genuinely respect unique themes, and twists in a watch. Odd case shapes, dials, and styles etc. On the other hand I also respect the tried and true classic styles, and brands that have superior workmanship, quality, and movements. Also don't mind if a watch has cool features, but that won't stop me from liking a watch if it has less features, and is more simple. Watch movements can be a great reason for buying a watch. I know there are so many out there, and would like to start adding some NICE movements into the mix. With watch brand or names behind the watch. That hasn't been one of my reason for buying watches to be honest, but again see myself trying to look at nice brands in the future at the same time. ..Guess it comes down to a balance in the end. Probably would be most enjoyable to have BOTH respected, as well as lesser known smaller watch company watches ! ..That way we can find out as much as possible about what is out there on all levels, and find out what is, and isn't so good. Maybe even compare small, medium, and large companies and see what is best, how they stack up against eachother, or what we like most about all of them ! ____________________________________ | |

| Style is typically the main thing. I'm drawn to dive watches with mechanical movements. Brand name/reputation is important to me, also. I typically stay away from the microbrands although I did have a Bathys and Kremke in my collection at one point. Alan's Lumtec, though, is pretty tempting... | |

| I BELIEVE IT COMES DOWN TO STYLE & FUNCTIONALITY. I started my collection w/ as many as I could afford . I have since learned that quantity is not better than quality, these days I purchase brands that hold some value as well as quality pieces. I have quite a few micro-brands that r sick & it's nice to be able to get both quality & a decent price point.Buy what you like is my belief ,but just remember not all "watches" r "timepieces" Im after my 1st ANONIMO D-DATE as we speak | |

| First is size - if it is over 45mm...no dice, no matter how great it looks. Second is style - if I don't like the looks of the watch, I will not wear it. Third is name - the watch should have a track record or heritage. It isn't a deal breaker, but it may lead me away if this is missing. Forth/Final is price - if it is outside of my current budget, not gonna happen. I buy everything cash and that will not change for any watch. ____________________________________ M A R K

| i have come to this, of course it has to look good, but i want quality and sometimes that cost $$$ you can say your paying a lot for a name, but if that name has proven it self time and time again. your going to have to spend some $$$ and to me it worth it. | |

| Watches need to have that "get on my damn wrist" look. Hard to define, it will just have that certain look. Next, I look for deals and move along until a deal comes up. | |

Those are vastly different. One is usually solid while the other is liquid. BUT! Since we've seen essentially the same watch from different brands with the only obvious difference being the size, I can fully understand why you separate it out. For me though, size is an integral part of the overall style.
