PostSubject: To 3D, or not to 3D..   To 3D, or not to 3D.. Icon_minitimeSun Mar 06, 2011 11:12 pm

that is the question. Smile ..Was wondering what you guys thought about 3D in movies, and as
of late with T.V.'s. I'm basically on the fence with it to be honest. Have actually been avoiding
it in the movies. Had wanted to see Tron Legacy a while back in 2D, but it was mostly in 3D,
so unfotunately ended up not seeing it. It's not that I don't think the technology is great, I do.
Have seen demos of it in various electronics stores, just didn't want to experience it for two
hours I guess. So what are your opinions on 3D ? Are you a fan of it ? Or not really ? Have
you seen alot of 3D movies in theaters, or on a 3D T.V. ?

I would love to see 3D without the use of those glasses. I would hope that those who are developers in technology can come up with something different. "I hate the glasses!" I almost feel off balance when wearing them.

Ok...the 3D is great with the glasses, I see it all of the time at work. Plug---->>> did you know that ESPN has a 3D network...yep, full service network.

Now back on topic...there will be 3D coming to the market very soon that you will not need glasses to watch! It will use technology combined with a special lens to make the 3D effect! It is being tested.

With that being said, I see no need to go out and get any 3D TV until the programing is in place to totally utilize the technology. My advice is not to get it unless it is in a TV that you are already planning to purchase, not to base a decision on.

OK ... Done

I used to create 3D content for theme park rides - Spiderman Universal City Florida (still there), Luxor Hotel Vegas when it first opened (gone now). Mostly a total PITA to create this stuff - double everything and compounded complications for double the potential error.

Gimmicky old tech IMProO. Mostly find it to be a nuisance and feel the glasses to be an obstruction. Tron was 2D for almost the entire first half of the movie. Although most sat there with their glasses, on I checked and took mine off.

While the movie 3D delivery and execution is a lot better than it used to be, FWIW I still prefer 2D and will NOT be buying a 3D TV. A good movie shouldn't need it and a bad one will still suck in 3D.

Now OTOH, 3D for Games actually enhances the sensory immersion effect. Still, until they can deliver it without giving you a headache I'll pass.

I personally am not that impressed with 3D and don't see it lasting...

Now, find a way to show depth INSIDE the screen, that will be impressive.

I guess I still find it more "gimicky" than of any real benefit.

So sue me!

I will not go out of my way to see a movie in 3D, I realy dont see that it makes a movie any better. As far as 3D tv goes, not interested at all. Steve

Definitely have to agree with what you guys are saying. To 3D, or not to 3D.. 803574 ..Just seems like it's not quite worth
the extra amount the movie tickets cost for 3D, or getting a new 3D T.V. when you end up getting
that off balance, dizzying feeling. Maybe once the effects work without the glasses that will change
our minds, but until then it does seem like a gimmick like you are saying.

Thanks alot everyone, and thank you Jaw for giving us some extremely cool insight into how the 3D
technology actually works. I remember seeing seeing that Spiderman, and I think Shrek in 3D a while
back at Universal Studios. Smile Mark, that 3D ESPN Network sounds great as well !

Thanks once again everybody !

Cool - You were on the Spiderman ride in Florida?
I was responsible for every pixel you saw - practically killed me.
Also animated camera in the finale where you are grabbed by Spidey pulled up then fall to the ground.
Usually has grown men screamin like little girls - including me.

Didn't know about that Ron. As long as your son enjoys the movies with you though,
that's what is most important, and all that really matters sir.

Jaw, yes it was in Florida. Not 100% sure if it's the same one, but I guess it was.
It was a few years ago, but I remember it being very very cool ! To 3D, or not to 3D.. 46145
