Time for a 'guessing game' Empty
PostSubject: Time for a 'guessing game'   Time for a 'guessing game' Icon_minitimeFri Mar 11, 2011 3:34 am

To inject a little juice into the place, I thought I'd instigate a guessing game to see who can guess the new vehicle
I just bought two days ago to replace my Mazda CX-9. Contrary to a recent post I made elsewhere, it's NOT a
Honda Pilot.

Some random clues:

I've been driving a Mazda CX-9 since they were introduced in 2007, and my wife currently drives a 2008 Honda
CR-V. I had a Pilot before that. I haven't particularly enjoyed driving the CX-9 because of it's length (199") and
how Mazda scrimped on or omitted several features I thought should be present in their top-of-the line trim level.

In addition to my two grown kids back in Minnesota, my family consists of my (working) wife, a son who is a
freshman in high school, and a son who is a sophomore at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo (about 320 miles from our
home in San Diego). Neither son has a car.

I retired last fall after 40+ years as a CPA and corporate finance guy. As such, my income is greatly reduced, but
my wife makes very good money at her long-time job. My youngest son is in a car pool to his high school, with
one parent (me) taking a day of the week to transport five kids both ways.

I admit I was looking seriously at a 2011 Honda Pilot, but that's not what I got.

Here's a list of the cars I've owned or leased for what it's worth. All were purchased new unless otherwise noted.

1956 Buick Special (inherited)
1963 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe (used)
1969 VW Beetle (customized)
1970 Fiat 124 Coupe
1971 Simca 1204
1972 Mazda RX2 Coupe (rotary)
1973 VW Super Beetle (customized)
1974 Mazda RX4 Wagon (rotary)
1976 Honda Civic CVCC
1965 Ford Mustang 289 (used)
1977 Buick LeSabre Sport Coupe (turbo)
1980 Toyota Celica
1981 BMW 528i
1982 Audi 5000
1983 Ford Bronco (custom conversion)
1984 Mazda 626 5-Door
1986 Audi 5000
1986 Honda Prelude
1973 BMW 2002ti (used)
1987 Jeep Laredo
1988 Pontiac Bonneville SSE
1992 Honda Civic EX
1993 Honda Accord EX
1996 Dodge Neon Sport
1997 Honda CR-V
2000 Honda Accord EX V6
2003 Honda Pilot EXL-DVD
2006 BMW 325i
2007 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring
2008 Honda CR-V EXL

So, fellow XMT members, given the above parameters and history, just what was it that I bought two days
ago to replace my CX-9? scratch

Feel free to ask yes or no questions for more clues.

Here's what my French Simca 1204 looked like 40 years ago. "1204" was the number of ccs of engine displacement.

None of the above.

Remember, I need space for six when I handle my son's car pool.
