The ZR012 is a new experimental watch by C3H5N3O9. C3H5N3O9 means nitroglycerin,
and is a new "experimental platform" that has some of today's most innovative watch-
makers behind it. They include Urwerk's Felix Baumgartner, and Martin Frei, as well as
MB&F's Max Busser, and Serge Kriknoff, along with Eric Giroud, creator of many uniquely
cool watches like the Harry Winston Opus 9.
The design for the watch has it's own unique style, but also pays tribute to Urwerk's 200
Series, along with the MB&F Thunderbolt's case. It measures 55mm x 44mm, and is made
of zirconium with titanium lugs. In addition the ZR012's movement is based upon an engine
named the "Wankel Engine" which was dreamt up by 19 year old German Felix Wankel back
in 1919. Which you may know as a rotary engine much like the one used by Mazda.
Time is told by something called "Releaux Polygons; they rotate eccentrically rather than
centrally and track complex epitrochroid curves rather than circles." The hours are evidently
told by the lower rotating rotor in front. While the minutes are indicated by the upper smaller
rotor. There is even a 39 hour power reserve indicator on the case-back of the watch.
