Subject: Omega and Timekeeping at the Olympics videos Sat Jul 28, 2012 9:45 pm
Saw these videos about Omega, and their history of timekeeping at the Olympics. Thought the timing was good since the Olympics are just getting started. ...In the first video Omega's President, Stephen Urquhart talks about their partnership with the Olympic Games, and how they have been the official timekeeper in the Olympics since 1932. You hear about traditional technologies like stop watches, and photo finish cameras, to making the Olympics more attractive to TV viewers using new technologies like GPS.
This second video is about the extreme precision timekeeping involved at the Olympics. In this video Peter Hurzeler, Omega Timing Board member talks about Omega's responsiblities at the games. From doing all of the timekeeping, scoring, keeping of Olympic, and also World Records to developing new technologies like virtual overlays, electronic pistols, pressure pads, special timing cameras and more. You really get an inside look at Omegas history of precision timekeeping.
A little more information that is really very interesting is how in the second video Peter Hurzeler tells how in 1932 Omega had 1 watchmaker, and 30 watches at the Games. While today they have 430 people, along with 420 tons of equipment at the Olympics.
