| GREAT pre-quel!
I really hope they do more under the premise of this story... ____________________________________

| Thanks a lot for the review Alan. Even though I haven't seen the movie I think it would be great if they stayed with this story as well. So many times today, it seems like they have a good idea going for a movie franchise reboot, only to have it end to be rebooted again in a different direction. Guess we will have to wait, and see what they do with Rise of the Planet of the Apes though. ____________________________________ | |

| Gonna see it with two of my boys in the next week or so. I've seen every iteration, but none can hold a candle to the Charlton Heston original. Saw it when it was first released and it was AWESOME at the time. | |

| I was hugely disappointed by it. I had great hopes for it being a big fan of the original (I watch it every time it's on much to the dismay of my family!) The CG was too obvious to me and there were too many forced references to the original. It definitely left room for follow ups and the start of a new series. I agree Tom, nothing else like the original especial that ending... |

| I didn't like it. Didn't care about the humans. Didn't care about the apes. It only got interesting when the apes started cutting loose, which was 1:30 hours into it. | |

| Relegated this one to DVD. Probably due to the original POTA overkill. Did however, like Tim Roth's performance in the last remake. | |

| I'm kinda surprised some of you didn't like it.
Granted it was slow building but I thought it was a GREAT set up for the premise of how Apes take over.
I will agree though that CAESAR'S face looked TOO human... ____________________________________

| I saw every one of them in their original theatrical runs. If I assign a rating of 10 to the Heston original, none of the sequels gets more than a 3. | |

They DO seem dated... And to think 4 years after the last one we got Star Wars: A New Hope which STILL holds up... Lucas REALLY did revolutionize special affects! ____________________________________

Lucas REALLY did revolutionize special affects! That he did. The original POTA was more about story than effects. Although it won an honorary Oscar for make up it does look dated today. It's script was co-written by Rod Serling and definitely has that feel, especially in the ending. All the follow ups were just riding the coat tails of the original and lacked the sharp wit of the original's screenplay. |
