Don, Here is a review I wrote about my Boschett Reef Ranger. Note what I said about the size. I dont know if it holds true for the one you pictured but that model doesnt seem to be very popular, I
never see them mentioned while the Reef Ranger gets a lot of play.
My first impression on opening the box is that this
watch is smooth, smooth, smooth. From the flowing lines to the mixture
of brushed and polished surfaces, to the rotation of the bezel and the
operation of the screw down crown, to the way the links of the bracelet
flow this watch just oozes smooth. A pretty amazing impression
considering how rugged this watch actually is.
The Swiss Made BOSCHETT REEF RANGER comes shipped in something a little
different. A double sided carrying case that is well thought out and
should last many miles.
The watch itself is shipped heavily covered in plastic on band, face and back.
In all of its splendor with the plastic removed. The black enameled
dial is one of the best finished ones I have seen anywhere near this
price range and the sapphire crystal seems non existant. I chose the
model without the cyclops which furthers this illusion. The hash marks
on the bezel are deep and sharply cut and the bezel itself slopes
gently downward towards the edges, not just a flat, square cut across.
The 22mm wide bracelet has no sharp edges anywhere but is short. With
my 61/2 inch wrist I only had to remove 2 links. Im sure more can be
obtained but be aware when ordering. You can see here that the flat
portions of the band and case are brushed while the edges of the case
and bezel are polished. Nice compromise allowing desk diving swirlies
to easily be removed.
The watch is advertised as being a 42mm but wears much bigger. Indeed,
my calipers measure the bezel at 43 1/2mm and the entire watch as 46mm
including the crown. This watch is probably the largest I can wear that
fits with no overhang (Thanks to the design of the solid end links) on
my puny 6 1/2 inch wrists. The 13mm thickness also makes wearing this
watch with long sleeves possible.
The bracelet is quite comfortable for a watch of this weight, 6.6 oz or
188 grams according to my postal scale. All solid links and end links
of course add to the balance. It seems to remain where ever you put it
on your wrist.
An excellent fit is achievable with both half links and micro
adjustments on the clasp. Got mine to center hole where I like it for
seasonal adjustments.
Large, engraved screw down crown with clearly visible rubber O ring for
high water resistance rating. It operates the gold plated model of the
ETA 2824-2 movement with a buttery but positive feel. I enjoy how the
bottom half of the B where ever it appears is made into a clock dial.
Solid screw on back to also help with the 300 Meter rating..
Bracelet is adjusted with rods and screws instead of push pins so
sizing it yourself is not a problem unless you eyesight is shot like
mine. Screw heads are VERY tiny so work on a non slip surface.
Included with the watch are 2 screwdrivers for adjusting the band. You
need both as the rod is free wheeling to give the band its smoothness
but one side must be held while the other side is being fastened or
unfastened.
The Superluminova lume starts out quite brightly but soon fades to a
more normal level. It does however remain legible all night.
So far the RR is running at ~ +11 seconds a day right out of the box.
Should be close to or COSC specs when it breaks in. I think this one
will be hugging my wrist for a long time to come.
