Really needed? No, not in my opinion.

It's a tough call, at first it seems bad but if they are delivering relief supplies and supporting the Haitian economy, is it OK?

If people don't like it...cruise someplace else or cancel your cruise and send the $$ to the Red Cross, or stay on the ship....it already like a resort. But at least allow the ship to deliver the much needed supplies with out bitching.

The only down side is some moral arguement from people on the ship? You know where the ship is going when you book the cruise, and when you get on. There was poverty and suffering there before the quake, now there is more.

Tourist are going to have to come back for Haiti to recover right? If this part of the island is open for business, maybe they should resume some normalcy.

Ethically and economically it's the only sensible move for the cruise line. Every defense raised by Royal Caribbean makes perfect sense because it's true. Exactly what benefit would there be to Haitians if these tourists and the liner were to be somewhere else, spending their money elsewhere? I mean, that might look better, but it wouldn't be better.

There's only two options when people are deep in a pit of misery:

The soft hearted option: Bring food, clothing, blankets, counsellors and spokespeople t give to the people in the pit.
The sensible option: bring ladders.

We aren't talking run-of-the-mill misery here...they are predicting tens of thousands of people were killed in the quake. Yea, I'm glad to see the ships delivered some relief supplies...but then they chug off to another part of the island and have a party? That's kinda like partying down in Oakland after San Francisco is leveled by a quake, doncha think? Imagine the uproar if that sort of thing happened on these shores. I think that it's morally reprehensible...and a P.R. nightmare. At the very least, drop off the supplies then change the next port of call.

A tough call indeed ...the area is desperately in need of cash...it reminds me of the 04 bigger Indian Ocean quake , 230,00 people die in several countries...yet as an example Thailand, one of the area countries hit hard by the Tsunami shortly after the quake, started promoting tourism not too long after...

Thing is, Haiti has a long history of oppression, dictators, money laundering , corruption... and the list goes on, before this tragedy , wonder if they ever going to get out of the hole...sad indeed
