| I may have not been the first, but one of my EARLY sins at "the place of which we do not speak" was to say, "never buy an Invicta new, wait 6 months and get it for 75% off..." ____________________________________ | |

| I bought one of the black dailed GMT SANIIIs at Costco a couple months ago. Nice "fashion" watch for only $189. I would never have paid $600-$1600 for one... but for under $200 I'll take a spin. Here's a different color dial version at my local Costco: And the rubber strap quartz chrono SANIII Funny enough, I posted about Invicta's precipitous price slashing strategy on the WG.net as a reply to a posting by a newbie asking why Invicta is not respected among many enthusiasts... and my post was deleted. Go figure! The whole basis for my post was to tell the newbie to simply wait 6 months and get the Invicta's he wanted at 75% off on a deal-a-day site or at Costco. I guess that someone is trying to protect their online sales... On the other hand I also recommended that if he wanted a watch that would retain more of its value for a longer period of time to look at some other midrange brands instead. P.S. I think Costco's standard markup is around 10%. So they must get them from Invicta for roughly $170 each! My local store also had great deals on Oris, Omega, Breitlings, and Tags. |

| I read a deal where costco marks everything up 16% and omega is trying to sue them as we speak, would be easy enough to see where the GM dealers are that sale to costco! Just talked to an AD for tissot, longines and gylcine in monterey he says GM sales account for 40 % of sales and the watch companies cant live without GM dealers even though they complain about them in public!! He thought most of the grey market pieces were coming in from the far east and guys like authentic watches stock almost everything but when they dont have a watch its a 2 -3 week wait just like an AD, he feels the GM is buying direct from the watch brand just like an AD! lus thereare buyers buying out complete store that are going out of business at huge loses and they turn around and sell to joma and authentic! Very interesting to get a inside view of whats happening! |

| Many of the ADs are hurting right now. Markup on watches is huge when you look at real costs. Problem is that the Swiss companies require a certain volume of sales to maintain your AD status. When the economy is bad you have a few choices - sell them out the back door to Gray Market dealers, loose your AD status, or do deals. The true measure of the price retention of a watch/brand are the secondary sales - used primarily. Look at what Invictas go for at eBay or WUS for instance and then look at what a Planet Ocean goes for used. |
