Do you think watches for the most part are something we buy, enjoy for awhile and sell to enjoy another, or to buy, keep and enjoy for years and eventually give to your kids? What category would you put yourself into?
Also, do you have a watch given to you passed down from a father, grandfather or relative? Let's see them.
Do you have a watch now that you will give to your son someday?

Well, Ron, the auto's I've bought, I'm enjoying, and don't plan on selling them. I've sold off all of the quartz, except for two that I think I'll keep.
We have no kids, and the nieces and nephews have shown no interest, so they won't get them. We'll probably leave them in the will to be sold off, and the money given to the kids of some friends of ours.
No watches passed down, let alone anything else.

Great question Ron. I buy watches for me and to wear them. I recently sold all of my tv brand watches because I wanted to change the direction of my collection. I will never sell another watch to buy another watch. My watch collection will go to my Son when I pass on. When he becomes of age I will purchase a special watch for him to celebrate his accomplishments.

Watches are stuff. No reason to hold on the ones I have. None at all.

i don't feel much sentimentality with my watches. my son loves playing with them, but he's 2, he plays with dirt and it's the greatest thing to him. i buy my watches for me - really it's the only thing i buy that i don't have to share with anyone.

i'll call watch "keepers" but it doesn't always work out that way and i don't want to pressure myself to keep something i don't want or use anymore.

i have little hesitation to sell a watch if it brings me something i really want, or just to pay the bills on slow months.

Well, you NEVER say never but I definitely think my Panerai and Breitling will be LIFERS...

I just sold about 3 more watches even though I don't have ANOTHER one picked out yet...

If we are honest too, the CHASE is a LOT of fun...

I'd probably have to put myself into the keep and enjoy for years category.
Hopefully, if I have kids some day, then I can pass them down to them. Question? Icon_smile
For the most part, it's about enjoying, and appreciating watches with me.
It's about what the watches mean to me, but also others. Especially if
I have recieved one as a gift. My watches aren't that expensive, but I
REALLY enjoy them, and never get tired of them. I hope to buy better
watches as the years go by as well, enjoy them, and hopefully give them
to someone also. Question? Icon_biggrin There is just something about watches in my opinion.
It's hard to put my finger on it, but it's about alot of things. The way
a watch looks, how it works, the design, the history of this hobby,
connections to family, friends or a time when you got a watch. It's
pretty cool in any case. So, that's the reason why I'm in the keep,
and enjoy category I guess. Also haven't had a watch given down
to me yet by the way !..Thanks !

I always buy a watch in the mindset that I`m gonna keep it, but things dont always turn out like that Question? Icon_rolleyes My two Rolexes though will never be sold (I hope) and will be given to my niece and nephew if I dont get any children of my own. The other keeper is my SKX007, it was the first watch anyone ever gave me as a gift. Roar (Elpresidente) sent me his, along with a sapphire crystal out of the blue. I wanted to pay for it, but he would hear nothing of the kind. That`s when I understood that there`s more to watches than just collecting them. I`ve really gotten some good friends thrue this hobby and alot of good laughs Question? Icon_biggrin
My brother and I both inherited a pocket watch each, mine is an old IWC that I think my grandfather had. This will of course be passed on to family.

My watches are to be worn. I've never understood how some folks keep their watches like new, I get dings like the second I open the box it seems.

I have a watch that was my late Father's watch:

The phrase "tomorrow is promised to no one" is a term that I like to use for my watches...they are cool and all, but like others say, its just stuff.

The one thing that I will never let go is the old Hamilton Clock that came from my dad. Since both of my parents died while I was fairly young, it is a way of keeping him with me (you know, it helps with the memories). You guys have seen it before, but here is a reminder:

Everything that I own is for sale at the right price. I used to be sentimental but no more.

My Mother sold my Fathers pocket watch while I was in the Air Force, I sold my Grandfathers Glycine and my one Uncles Omega when I didnt know any better but I do have my other Uncles Ulysses Nardin for some reason.

Question? Unface

Sorry for the poor pic.

I have TWO watches that I will pass down. One is my grandfathers pocket watch and
the other was given to me by my good friend Duff.

I don't have a huge collection but I really enjoy wearing the ones that i own.
I try to wear them all at least once a week. I like every watch that I have purchased because I am
really picky to begin with. However, they are just stuff and after losing ALL my stuff in a house fire
a few years ago, I realized what is really important. You may be asking the question of
"so, what is important?".......Family and Friends.
