Things that make you say hmm.

I went back to Macy's today. Seems they didn't give me the paper manual that is suppose to come with my G-Shock.

When I told the clerk, she asked what model I had. I showed her the watch and indicated it's a 3194 module.

Then, I couldn't believe what I saw. She had a plastic bin about 1' X 2' filled with manuals! These things are very small about the size of a domino. There were about 100 of them! All rubberbanded together, she's searching for my module number. Funny, not one of those manuals was for my watch!

She then reaches under the counter and pulls out another bin, this one about 2' X 2' is filled with watches!! None of them are in their plastic bags and are just thrown in there randomly! A third bin has the round tins.

I'm thinking MY GOD what a frickin mess! I don't know if this is how they ship to retailers or if someone took it upon themselves to separate all the pieces. From a few feet away, it appeared the watches were extras of those that were already in the display case. I suppose it's easier when they sell one to just replace it with one from the watch bin and grab a tin and manual for the buyer.

It was obvious they don't give a rip about their product, even if they are plastic some damage could be done. I assume all the watches in the bin have the same packaging. To their credit, they did have a special edition "in4mation" watch in the display with its proper special box.

While she was messing around, I tried on and had a notion to get the lime green solar watch. But it won't be from this store.

Oddly, I'm not surprised.

Watches may as well be sox, or purses, or underwear as far as a retailer like Macy's is concerned...

...they are just another PRODUCT to sell.

Wonder if that is how they store their higher end watches?

Yep - and they don't know anything about them except the price!

True story. Yesterday when i bought the G, another man was waiting for them to size his ESQ. I noticed he was looking at the VSA section and looked confused by the good variety. I told him to buy the Dive Master 500 ( blackened case, black dial , rubber strap).

Without even trying it on or looking at the price, he said "I'll take that one". When the clerk rang it up, he told me he just won $6k on a slot machine at the Indian Casino!

Not uncommon to see this in the department stores Doc.....have seen similar with other items ( as well as watches ) like kitchen appliances. Sales and returns of sales.......all too common

Doc, thankfully the highest brand they have is Victorinox Swiss Army and ESQ. They also carry the fashion stuff like Burberry, Coach as well as non-Acutron Bulovas.

Nice of you to point him at one of their best models (and probably discounted a bit).

I was in Macy's a couple of weeks ago with my son wandering around while we waited for my wife and daughter

We were in the watches section, where else, and I was listening to the sales clerk talk to a couple about the Eco-Drives. My 9 year old said to me "Dad, I thought you said they could be stored for up to 4 years, but he said 4 months?" Very proud of my son.

I bought a watch at Bloomingdales last year (Tag Heuer Link) and it took nearly an hour to get the right manual, box and paper work including proper warantee card for my watch. They had given up...until I told them the sale was dependant on the proper paperwork......then a manager cam over and in about 10 minutes we had all the right stuff.

Most people don't give a crap I guess...I do....

Macy's has always been OK, so has JC Penney........except for ne time they could not find the right box for a Casio.....

I love my AD.

I've never had a problem getting all the right stuff from the WIS I've purchased from in the past. Does explain some of the "no box or papers" sales posts though.

manuals WP ! ..Now we know ! ..Often thought that
the watches in the cases were mostly display models, but
I guess not. Also want to say..NICE JOB with recommending
that Dive Master 500 to that guy !
