| Was wondering how long everyone thought it took for a watch to become a vintage watch ! Also can just any watch become vintage ? Or should it kind of be a special watch from a major watch manufacturer ? Or perhaps a rare or small watch company to be considered vintage ? Any thoughts about this ! Here is also a link that disusses this, and shows a cool vintage G-Shock as well.. http://precisiontime.blogspot.com/2010/10/different-kind-of-vintage-casio-g-shock.html____________________________________ | |

| For mechanical watches: 30+ years old. For quartz watches: 100+ years old. | |

| 20-25 years for me but someone like Tom (PC) would be the man I would look to as to what vintage means in the watch world! |

| Just like Tom, I would have to say 30 years, but that time frame is skipped in the poll. Of course this means 1980 watches are vintage.. . ____________________________________ Later, GaryRemember we are the caretakers of mechanical art..... That does seem shocking. Well go back and look at TV's 30 years ago... Cars 30 years ago... Computers...WTF was a computer 30 years ago? Get the point? ____________________________________ | |

| THANKS for all of these EXCELLENT, along with very FUNNY opinions everyone ! ..I REALLY appreciate it !!!!! ..The watch and car comparisons are off the charts if you ask me. Some TREMENDOUSLY NICE looking cars here also Tom and Guy ! ..Just as a side note here ! Tom brought up a good point about vintage vs old before. Is there a difference with this ? Does a watch have to be kind of special, exceptional, or rare to really be considered vintage ? Or can any watch actually go beyond being old, and become vintage as well ? ____________________________________ | |

Or can any watch actually go beyond being old, and become vintage as well ? I'm a bit of a snob, so I wouldn't consider an "old" quartz watch to be "vintage" unless it was very special. To me, the allure of a vintage watch or a vintage car is the mechanical elegance it demonstrates, not just its age and ability to perform its basic function.

| Vintage is old is antique, could be good or bad. When you start talking about 'classic' then this implies some quality with the 'oldness'.
The biggest piles of crap on eBay are still called 'vintage'. ____________________________________ Later, GaryRemember we are the caretakers of mechanical art..... Member NAWCC, National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors

| IMHO Vintage: the undated term describes something that is old enough to be in fashion again. Thus since 1970s styles are in fashion again, they are "vintage". 1980s styles haven't yet been resuscitated; all they are is "out of date." So at this point they haven't made it to the "vintage" category.
